Flag Marching

Dipsy and Laa-Laa seeing Po and Tinky Winky marching with the flag.

The Flag is a segment in Teletubbies. The segment appeared in the very first episode, Ned's Bicycle.

A flag appears in Teletubbyland. Po appears as we are introduced to her scooter. She stops her scooter and giggles while running towards the audience to say "Eh-oh!" She asks "What's that?" The narrator tells her that it's a flag. Po is amazed begins to march around the flag. Then she decides to wave the flag. Po pulls the flag out of its hole and decides to march while waving the flag around.

Tinky Winky is out for a walk when he stops and turns by to the audience, saying "Eh-oh!" Tinky Winky then hears someone saying "Flag, flag, flag, flag, flag..." Tinky Winky asks "What's that?" He turns around and sees the flag over a hill. He asks the same question again. He turns around again to see Po waving the flag. Tinky Winky and Po greet each other Tiny Winky asks Po "What's that?" Po replies that it's a flag. Po then marches away. Tinky Winky decides to follow her, so he runs to catch up with her.

Po and Tinky Winky march with the flag over the hills and between the trees. Dipsy and Laa-Laa say Eh-Oh. They gasp as they see Po and Tinky Winky marching past them with the flag. Dipsy and Laa-Laa decide to follow them. As Tinky Winky and Po march with the flag into the house. Po ends up bumping the flag and Tinky Winky falls down after he runs into her. They say "Again, again!" and Po moves the flag around so it fits in the archway that leads into the house. They march indoors.

Dipsy and Laa-Laa don't know where Tinky Winky and Po have gone. As they wonder where they are, the flag suddenly pops over the top hole of the house. Dipsy and Laa-Laa notice the flag waving. Then it stops waving and Po and Tinky Winky exit the house and see Laa-Laa and Dipsy. They all have a Big Hug and look at the flag. They are all amazed by it.

Then the flag disappears. The Teletubbies are disappointed and say "All Gone!," but have a big hug afterwards. Just then, the Teletubbies hear the Magic Windmill spinning. The Teletubbies say "Uh-oh!" and run away to watch the very first Magic Event, The Animal Parade.

  • Like Time for Tubby Toast, the windmill whooshes in the opening shot instead of being silent as this segment occurs in Ned's Bicycle, the first episode of the series.
  • The opening shot is the Bird's Eye View of the Windmill and two rabbits. The music for this shot is also rare. The only other segment that uses this music is the opening segment in The Grand Old Duke of York.
  • A book based on this segment was released in 1997, titled 'The Magic Flag'.
