Larette Tap Dancing is the 14th episode of the original series. It first aired on 17th April 1997.

Synopsis[]

The Teletubbies are quiet and lying on the floor in front of the control panel. They quietly giggle and shush Noo-Noo while he is making his sucking and slurping noises and wonders what the Teletubbies are doing. The Teletubbies then shush and giggle for the third time. Suddenly, they look towards the window to see The Magic Windmill spinning. This time, they say "Uh Oh!" loudly and laugh happily, and they run out of the house to watch the Tap Dancing Teddy Bear. Afterwards, the Magic Windmill is still spinning, and the Teletubbies watch Larette tap dancing in her garden. Then, the Teletubbies came up with a Tip Toe Dance. It's Noisy Footsteps Day, and everyone noisily walks around Teletubbyland, making the flowers complain. Then, the Teletubbies decide to walk quietly, which makes the flowers feel relaxed. Then, it is time for Tubby Toast, and the Teletubbies start being noisy once again! But then the voice trumpet rises and announces: "Time for Tubby Bye Bye!" The Teletubbies start moaning and then run outside for Tubby Bye-Bye.

Featuring: Larette Tritton

Trivia[]

  • This is the first episode of a few things where The Tap Dancing Teddy Bear dances once.
  • This is the first episode to have The Tip Toe Dance and the only episode to feature the first version of the dance.
  • This is one of three episodes where a magical event happens before a TV Event. The other episodes are Going In and Coming Out and African Dance. The former is also the second one to have the Tap Dancing Teddy Bear dancing only once.
  • This is the second episode where the Baby Sun is not shown giggling when the Teletubbies go to watch the Tap Dancing Teddy Bear. The other two are Painting with Hands and Feet and Humpty Dumpty.
  • The Windmill sequence that is used during the Magical Event sequence is the Original Window animation that is also used in Ned's Bicycle, See-Saw and The Gingerbread Boy. It is a rare sequence that is not used in a lot of episodes. This is also the only time when the Original Window animation is used during the Magical Event sequence. However, in See Saw, the windmill's whooshing from the Magical Event theme can be heard, as well as the theme playing at the same time as the TV Event theme.
  • The Larette Tap Dancing video was featured in the VHS Dance with the Teletubbies, however, some small clips were cut from that version including Larette's mum putting on her tap shoes, Larette blowing a kiss before saying goodbye, and Larette running behind a bush at the very end of the video. However, the version with the full scenes was only aired in the UK, which can be found on YouTube. It was also featured on the DVD Teletubbies Happy Birthday.
  • The Noisy Footsteps Day segment was featured in the VHS Hands, Feet and Dirty Knees. However, the ending where it's time for Tubby Toast is cut out for some reason.
  • This episode was featured on the DVD Teletubbies: Happy Birthday!
  • This is the first episode that has the Teletubbies running out of the house straight after the voice trumpet announces "Time for Tubby Bye-Bye". This also happens in Herding Sheep, Numbers - 9, Numbers - 2 (version 2) and How Things Swim. However, in this episode, the clip of the Teletubbies running is a different clip than the one used in this episode. The clip used in this episode can be seen in See-Saw. Also, in this episode, after we see the Teletubbies running, the Sun Baby giggles, and it cuts to the Teletubbies standing behind the hills moaning, whereas in these episodes, after we see the Teletubbies running, the Sun Baby giggles, and the Narrator begins to say "Bye-Bye" to the Teletubbies.
  • This episode marks the only appearance of Larette.
  • Dipsy was the boo shouter.
  • Tinky Winky is picked for the TV Event.
  • Laa-Laa was the missing Teletubby.
  • After The Tip Toe Dance, a fade effect was used to transition from the Baby Sun to the next segment. This also happens in Jumping, another episode with the Tap Dancing Teddy Bear.
  • In the Dutch version, the audio of the Teletubbies groaning before they run outside for Tubby Bye-Bye is the same as Tubby Bye-Bye.
